You Blew it. Easy Hack for Removing Candle Wax Spills.
Spilled candle wax creating a s-candle? Maybe it was your tipsy uncle at Easter dinner knocking over a candle, or maybe things got a little messy in the bedroom. Whatever the case, we have a super simple hack for removing candle wax from almost anything; napkins, sheets, carpet, even upholstery.
What you need:
- A butter knife
- An iron
- Cloths or paper bags
- Tide® Rescue
- Powdered Tide®
What to do:
Fabrics:
1. Grab your iron and turn it on. Lay out your wax soiled fabric, and ensure your heat setting on your iron is safe for the fabric type.
2. Using a butter knife, scrape off as much wax as you can.

3. Dampen a cloth with some water, and lay it over the wax spill. You can also use paper bags placed over the wax, but in our testing we’ve found that damp cloths work best. The goal here is to transfer the wax onto the paper bags or cloths so use something you don’t mind ruining.

4. Iron the spots until you can see that the wax has transferred onto the paper or cloth. Keep the iron moving, and move the paper bag or cloth around to clean areas as the wax soaks through them. A few puffs of steam in each spot helps, too. Keep going until the wax is all transferred, and it looks like only a grease mark remains.

5. Treat the remaining grease stain with your favorite pre-treatment. We love Tide® Rescue.

6. Wash in your washing machine with Powdered Tide® to remove the grease stain. Check that it’s removed before drying as normal.

You’re done!
Carpet and Upholstery:This same method can also be used on carpet or upholstery. Just use extreme caution not to burn your carpet or couch, etc. Use lower heat and check OFTEN that you are not melting anything other than the wax. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED. Once the wax has been removed, you can spot treat the grease stain with Tide® Rescue, or your favorite spot stain treatment. A pinch of powdered Tide® and a clean wet cloth works wonders, too.

Keep this simple hack up your sleeve for when candle wax accidents inevitably happen and you can wow your friends and family. And be sure to use the search feature on our blog for more cleaning hacks.

I used Mr. Clean undiluted, sprayed it on and let it sit for about ten minutes, scrubbed and wiped it off well to rinse. Letting your cleaning products sit is part of the process, they do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. I think many of us get discouraged with cleaning products because we spray and wipe immediately with minimal results…dirt and grease needs time to soften and break down before you can remove it. However, there is always a little bit (or a lot) of elbow grease required, nothing in life is free 🙃

Recipe:
1 gallon of hot water in a bucket
1 teaspoon of powered tide laundry detergent
Microfibre cloth or a ripped up old towel—you need a cloth with texture to get into the grooves of the paint but do not scrub too hard or scrape because you’ll chip the paint.
Wipe the walls down and let it soften the boogers/food/dog slobber, then repeat. The hot water will help soften the crud, the tide will lift the dirt.
No need to rinse.
