How to Fold a Fitted Sheet (With Video)

Folding a fitted sheet can be one of the most aggravating tasks on laundry day. If you are bunching up your fitted sheets and shoving them in the linen closet in frustration, we gotchu.

The Go Clean Co Rule: Every fitted sheet has 4 corners, but by the time we’re done, they will all live inside one single pocket. If you aren’t “tucking and shaking,” you’re doing it the hard way.

A 12-step visual guide with simple line drawings demonstrating how to fold a fitted sheet. The steps show tucking the corners into each other, folding the sheet into a long rectangle, and then folding that rectangle into a small, neat, storable shape.

How to Fold a Fitted Sheet:

  1. Starting with the sheet inside out, place your hands in two of the corners.
  2. Bring your hands together and fold one corner over top of the other, creating a pocket.
  3. With one hand inside the pocket you’ve just created, follow along the sheet to the remaining corners and tuck those into each other, to create another pocket.
  4. Bring your hands together again and fold one set of corners over top of the others, so that all 4 corners are in the same pocket.
  5. Grab the top corners and give them a little shake to straighten it out. You should now see a loose L-shape of the elastic part facing you.
  6. On a folding surface, using the corner as a guide, fold down your outside edges, making sure they are mostly straight.
  7. Fold one side over, about ⅓ of the way across.
  8. Fold the remaining ⅓ over, and straighten your edges again.
  9. Smooth out any wrinkles and creases.
  10. Fold the sheet into quarters for a king sheet, or thirds for a smaller sheet.
  11. For a king sheet (quarter folds), fold the bottom up, then top down, then in half to keep the edges clean.
  12. Done! You should have a nice little rectangle with the folds, corners and elastics hidden on the inside.

When it’s time to change your sheets next time you should have nice clean creases from your folds instead of unsightly wrinkles. Use this article to help you make your bed like a pro.

Pro Tip: Label Your Sets

Once you’ve mastered the fold, don’t lose track of which sheet belongs to which bed! We love using Sheet Organizers (USA) (Canada) and Sheet Set Label Bands (USA) (Canada) to identify Twin, Queen, or King sets at a glance. It makes grabbing the right linens a breeze.
