Home Gym Cleaning Tips | Keep Your Equipment Like New
One of the major benefits of having a home gym is avoiding the sweaty seats and strangers’ germs. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t have to clean your gym equipment. Your home gym equipment still needs to be wiped down and cleaned regularly for good hygiene.
It’s quick and easy to do, so stop avoiding it.
How to clean your home gym equipment:
Whether it’s a medicine ball, weights, treadmill, elliptical or other machine, the method we use is the same:

- Give everything a thorough vacuuming (USA) (Canada) with a horsehair brush (USA) (Canada). Get in all the nooks and crannies.
- Mix up a batch of:
- Wipe everything down. Pay special attention to handles and seats.
Pro tip: Wear clothes that can get bleach stained and watch for drips! - For any machines with screens:
How to clean home gym flooring:
Regular flooring, rubber gym flooring, or yoga mats are all cleaned in the same manner:
- Vacuum to the best of your ability. If your floor matts are getting sucked into your vacuum head, turn down the suction.
- Mop using our hot water, bleach, and powdered Tide® recipe (above). We find that some rubber flooring really grips onto our mops so it makes it hard to glide over the surface. If yours is particularly grippy, put some muscle into it with the mop, or you can mop by hand using a cloth.
How to clean mirrors:
- Option 1: Windex® (USA) (Canada). Spray your whole mirror and then wipe it down using paper towels, a microfiber rag, or a carbon cloth.
- Option 2: Blue Dawn® (USA) (Canada) and a squeegee. This method works really well if you have a haze on your mirrors. Mix a good squeeze of blue Dawn® dish soap and some hot water, apply it to the mirror with a cloth or squeegee, then use the squeegee to wipe it down. Give it a final polish with paper towels or a carbon cloth to get rid of any streaks.

Let’s keep it clean, athletes.

I used Mr. Clean undiluted, sprayed it on and let it sit for about ten minutes, scrubbed and wiped it off well to rinse. Letting your cleaning products sit is part of the process, they do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. I think many of us get discouraged with cleaning products because we spray and wipe immediately with minimal results…dirt and grease needs time to soften and break down before you can remove it. However, there is always a little bit (or a lot) of elbow grease required, nothing in life is free 🙃

Recipe:
1 gallon of hot water in a bucket
1 teaspoon of powered tide laundry detergent
Microfibre cloth or a ripped up old towel—you need a cloth with texture to get into the grooves of the paint but do not scrub too hard or scrape because you’ll chip the paint.
Wipe the walls down and let it soften the boogers/food/dog slobber, then repeat. The hot water will help soften the crud, the tide will lift the dirt.
No need to rinse.
