Travel Packing Hacks For An Organized Trip
There are 2 types of people: Those who pack a week in advance, and those who throw everything in their suitcase 10 minutes before they have to leave for the airport. And they usually end up married to each other.
Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, there are tricks to making packing easier and more organized. You’ll have the essentials for a clean, safe, and stress-free trip.
Things to consider:
- Where you’re headed and staying.
- The weather.
- Planned activities.
- Dress codes for planned events and activities.
- What can you bring to keep yourself organized?
Here are some of our favorite travel hacks to get you packed and on your way!
Organizing your suitcase:
When you buy through our links, we may earn a small commission.
- One of the most useful organizers that you can get are packing cubes (USA) (Canada). These are great for separating and securing your items so that nothing gets thrown around in your suitcase.
- Divide your clothes into daily outfits – this helps over-packers and under-packers alike.
- Keep liquids in a sealed Ziploc bag to stop them from spilling in your luggage. Check your airline’s requirements for limits if you’re flying.
- Separate dirty and clean clothes by using a dirty laundry bag (USA) (Canada).
- Use travel shoe bags (USA) (Canada) or have a separate space for shoes.
- Space saver hack: Roll your clothes instead of folding them, or use vacuum storage bags (USA) (Canada) to compress your items to fit.
- If you’re flying, check the baggage weight limits and weigh your luggage before you head to the airport. To lessen the load, wear heavier items on the plane.
- An AirTag (USA) (Canada) in your suitcase will keep track of where your luggage is in the event they are lost during your travels.
- Compressed towels (USA) (Canada) are very handy as they are coin-sized and are a quick easy way to have a towel on hand. Just add water to expand, making a great wet towel for cleaning. Or let it dry for later use.

Flying? What should go in your carry on?
- Any required prescriptions. Whether your flight is delayed or your luggage is lost, you do not want to find yourself in a situation where you or your family members do not have access to their medication.
- Electronics (laptops, tablets, phones, cameras, etc.) and chargers.
- Wallet, passport, and any other important documents.
- Empty reusable water bottle (you can fill it once you are through security), and snacks. There can be complications or turbulence on flights, and for safety reasons drinks may not be served. Many airlines no longer serve snacks or meals so be prepared, especially in the case of a delay on the tarmac.
Pro Tip: Check TSA or CATSA requirements, as foods such as fresh fruit are not allowed on international flights. - Anything delicate, expensive or irreplaceable (ie: jewelry).
- Your keys! Keep these somewhere safe. When your trip is over you don’t want to be stranded in the parking lot searching for your keys.
Traveling Hacks for Beauty Items
- Necklaces and bracelets can become a knotted mess if you pack them together. One of the easiest ways to prevent tangling is using straws. Just unclasp the necklace/bracelet, feed one side through the straw and clasp. Keep them bundled together for easy travel.
- A travel jewelry case (USA) (Canada) will keep all your jewelry organized and tangle-free.
- Makeup organizers (USA) (Canada) are great for travel to keep your beauty items neatly organized.

Travel Laundry Hacks
- It’s always a good idea to bring a laundry bag (USA) (Canada) and travel laundry detergent packs (USA) (Canada) for quick washes. Pack outfits that can be re-worn and wash them as you travel. It saves on space in your luggage and allows room for new purchases.
- Pack a stain remover pen, like Tide To Go® (USA) (Canada), for those unexpected accidents.

I used Mr. Clean undiluted, sprayed it on and let it sit for about ten minutes, scrubbed and wiped it off well to rinse. Letting your cleaning products sit is part of the process, they do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. I think many of us get discouraged with cleaning products because we spray and wipe immediately with minimal results…dirt and grease needs time to soften and break down before you can remove it. However, there is always a little bit (or a lot) of elbow grease required, nothing in life is free 🙃

Recipe:
1 gallon of hot water in a bucket
1 teaspoon of powered tide laundry detergent
Microfibre cloth or a ripped up old towel—you need a cloth with texture to get into the grooves of the paint but do not scrub too hard or scrape because you’ll chip the paint.
Wipe the walls down and let it soften the boogers/food/dog slobber, then repeat. The hot water will help soften the crud, the tide will lift the dirt.
No need to rinse.
