11 Tips for Cleaning During the Holidays

The Holidays are stressful enough without worrying about keeping the house clean. Add houseguests to the equation, and the stress factor goes up. Here are our top 11 tips for cleaning during the Holidays.

  1. Vacuum and wipe down the areas you plan to decorate (fireplace mantle, bar/eater, tree area, etc.) BEFORE you start.
  2. Avoid glittery wrapping paper/ornaments.
  3. Don’t vacuum up pine needles, you risk wrecking your vacuum. Brooms allowed for this task only.
  4. Prioritize public rooms like the kitchen, living, and main floor bathrooms.
  5. Clean as you go, always.
  6. Top to bottom, left to right applies to Holiday cleaning, too.
  7. Blast the Christmas music while you clean to make it fun.
  8. Prepare guest rooms and bathrooms ahead of time.
  9. Cook and bake in advance as much as possible.
  10. Ask for help when you need it. Family should be helping and most guests feel valued when they are asked to help out!
  11. Santa doesn’t visit with messy rooms. Keep your kids busy leading up to Christmas by having them clean their rooms before the big day.

The most important thing to remember is that Christmas is about the memories you are making together. And guess what? The cleanliness of your house isn’t what people are going to remember (unless it’s, like, a level 10 Shrek swamp). So put down that cloth and go make some memories.
